Sometimes when we share a link to a blog post to our Facebook page we get either an error or no image shows up at all.
This has happened to us a few times recently.
We’re not entirely sure why this happens but there is a really simple fix.
You just need to use the Facebook Open Graph Object Debugger tool in the Developers section of Facebook.
How to make Facebook show images when sharing links using the debugger tool
First of all, this is what it looks like when your link is failing to pull a relevant image onto your Facebook page. Look how sad and boring this link looks on my Facebook page.
To fix this you want to head over to the Facebook Debugger Tool. It looks like this:
Now you want to copy and paste your URL into the box provided and click the ‘debug’ button.
It should look something like this:
Now click on the ‘Fetch New Scrape Information’ button. It should then look something like this:
If you are a WordPress.org blogger then it is worth using the Yoast SEO plugin and enabling the Facebook Open Graph by checking the box. As seen below:
Now the images should be displaying when a link is shared on your Facebook page.
Finally, Facebook does now offer the chance to upload your own image to a link that you are sharing to your page, so that is another option if this doesn’t work for you. Simply click on the box with the cross in the middle and choose an image from your hard drive.
